Juan Manuel Gálvez International Airport (Spanish: Aeropuerto Internacional Juan Manuel Gálvez) serves national and international air traffic for the island. The airport is named for Juan Manuel Gálvez, a former president of Honduras. It is also known as Roatán International Airport (RTB). The airport handles major airplanes (747's, etc), not just 'puddle jumpers' - prop and propjet. There are several direct flights to Roatan from the States, Canada, Italy, etc. The airport is not as 'modern' as many, but it sure is 'cool' that you can exit not only from the front of the plane, down the movable stairs, but at the back also, for the rest of 'us' that do not fly FirstClass. Deplaning is simple and timesaving.
